The Kill Order by James Dashner is the first prequel to The Maze Runner series. The young-adult fiction book came out on August 14, 2012. Barnes & Noble rated the book an overall 4.4 /5. The original three books go in order from The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials, and The Death Cure. The book that follows The Kill Order is called The Fever Code. The book is 327 pages in total making it a quick and easy read.
At the beginning of the book one of the main characters from the Maze Runner, Teresa, is seen with Thomas saying goodbye as she watches her friend go into the maze with no memory. The story then continues with new characters and taking place before the maze existed, when sun flares just hit the earth. Sun flares are what destroyed the world and turned it into a world filled with zombie like creatures called “cranks.”The story follow survivors of the sun flares Mark and Trina. Mark and Trina set on a journey to try help those left after the devastation. During their journey they run into several other characters who join them. The book ends with some information that can be connected with The Maze Runner.
Reading this book before you read the ones released before in The Maze Runner series may not be the best idea since there are some references to those books made in the first three books. It is a prequel though so it could be read before if you want to. The book has answers and explanations for what happened in the three original books, so this is a book to read if you plan on reading every single book in the series.
The Kill Order is written for mainly teenagers but is an interesting book for anyone who enjoys reading about dystopias.
